Wanted to remind everyone that our April guild meeting is this coming Saturday!!!
We will be having a program/project doing Stick Weaving. Its amazing to see what you start with (some sticks and yarn) and then see the finished woven scarves/bands/trim that can be created 🙂
Time: 10am to Noon
Location: 637 6th Street NW, Winter Haven, FL – We meet in the girl scout house behind first Presbyterian Church on Hwy 17
*** Please remember that this meeting is also our election of officers. If you can not come for the whole meeting, please stop by and place your vote 🙂
*** This stick weaving project was created by Linda Dawkins and can be seen here:
Over the last two years, the Polk County Fiber Guild’s members have been sewing, knitting, and crocheting baby blankets for the Regency Medical Center in Winter Haven, FL.
Janet, our go to on this project, received a letter from the Regency thanking the members for all of the blankets that have been donated… but as of March 1st, they are no longer going to be accepting blankets.
We are not sure why this has changed, but I am assuming it has something to do with the new owners of the hospital.
We are currently looking for another “group” that could benefit from our blankets. I will inform the members as I obtain more information.
Thank you for your time,
This is just a reminder that January 16th, 2015 from 10am to noon will be our next guild meeting!!!
Date: January 16th, 2015
Time: 10am to noon
Place: 637 6th Street NW, Winter Haven, FL… in the Girl Scout House
We are still gathering supplies for Cori’s journal demo… so the January meeting will be a Bring Your Own Project day… Bring something to work on… hang out with like minded people and just have a good time 🙂
Hope to see you all on the 16th,
P.S. The monthly Bobbin Lace meeting is this coming Sunday (the 10th)… if you would like to attend, please let me know and I will get you the address 🙂
When: December 19th, 2015
When: 11am to 1pm
Where: Girl Scout House
As you can see above, our meeting will start one hour later than usual… at 11am… that way we not have a breakfast potluck 🙂
*** We will also have an ornament swap for members that would like to participate… If you chose to participate, please bring in an ornament (either handmade or store bought)… we will have paper bags to place your ornament in… once each person who participates has brought in their ornament, we will start the random drawing 🙂
*** This year, Carla, had a wonderful idea to do a recipe swap!!! With this, write down your favorite recipe on a 4 x 6 index card… seal it in an envelope (you are encouraged to decorate the envelope)… they will be drawn out of a container for those who participate!!!
If you have any questions about the ornament swap, recipe swap, or potluck, please feel free to contact me 🙂
This coming Saturday is our annual Demonstration Day at the Winter Haven Public Library… We will be set up from 9am to noon.
Anyone who would like to come out and see what our members create, please stop by… We will also have a kids table set up with spool knitting and cardboard weaving for the little ones…
We hope to see you there!!!
Since our Demonstration Day is November 21st at the Winter Haven Public Library, for the October meeting, we will be making sure all our ducks are in line for the Demo Day… and also a Bring Your Own Project Day…
So, if we have enough supplies for the Demo Day, we will just hang out and work on our own projects… mingle and have a fun time 🙂
Dont forget your 10 Meals on Wheels things… if you do not have them finished, you can get them to me by the November meeting…
And if you have stuff you would like to sell, please bring it along, as we will have a For Sale Table at the October Meeting…
Hope to see you all October 17th… and if you would like to do something specific for the Demo Day, please let me know!
For the September meeting, Lyle and Judy will be sharing their talent for making fabric (or paper) covered Christmas Ornaments!!! These ornaments are super cute and would be great gift or addition to your tree…
Lyle and Judy will be supplying the styrofoam balls… so you will need:
–> 3 pieces of different fabric or origami paper – these will need to be cut into 8 pieces in 2 1/2 inch squares for first material… and 16 pieces for second and third fabrics
–> 1 box of flat head pins / applique pins – each ornament uses about 200 pins
–> Ribbon or Eyelet to go around the center of the ornament
–> Ribbon for loop to hang on tree
*Please cut your squares before the meeting to save time 🙂
Dont forget to bring along your show and share… we always like to see what you are working on!
